Idylls Of The King

shall I not lift her from this land of beasts

up to my throne,

and side by side with me?

. . .

were I join'd with her,

then might we live together as one life,

and reigning with one will in everything

have power on this dark land to lighten it,

and power on this dead world to make it live

Leonard Cohen

 AMEN

Tell me again
When I've been to the river
And I've taken the edge off my thirst
Tell me again
We're alone & I'm listening
I'm listening so hard it hurts

Tell me again
When I'm clean and I'm sober
Tell me again
When I've seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me you want me then
Amen

Tell me again
When the victims are singing
And laws of remorse are restored
Tell me again
That you know what I'm thinking
But vengeance belongs to the Lord

Tell me again
When I'm clean and I'm sober
Tell me again
When I've seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you love me then
Amen

Amen
Amen
Amen

Tell me again
When the day has been ransomed
& night has no right to begin
Tell me again when the angels are panting
And scratching the door to come in

Tell me again
When I'm clean and I'm sober
Tell me again
When I've seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you need me then
Amen

Amen
Amen
Amen

Tell me again
When the filth of the butcher
Is washed in the blood of the lamb
Tell me again
When the best of the culture
Has passed thru' the
Eye of the Camp

Tell me again
When I'm clean and I'm sober
Tell me again
When I've seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you love me then
Amen

Amen
Amen
Amen

Joyce Carol Oates

I SAW A WOMAN WALKING INTO A PLATE GLASS WINDOW

I saw a woman walking into a plate glass window
as if walking into the sky.

I saw her death striding forward to meet her,
shadowed in flawless glass.

Dogwood blossoms drew her, a lilac-drugged air,
it was beauty's old façade,
blinding,
blind: the transparency
that, touch, turns opaque.

The frieze into which she stepped buckled in anger
and dissolved in puzzle parts about her head
.
•  •  •
I saw a woman walking into sunshine confident and composed
and tranquil to the last.

I saw a woman walking into something that had seemed nothing.
As we commonly tell ourselves.

The trick to beauty is its being unassimilable,
a gallery of glittering reflections,
each puzzle part in place.
Not this raining of glass and blood
about the amazed head.

The unfathomable depths into which she stepped became
the merest surface,
Pain and noise.
•  •  •
I saw a woman walking into her broken body
as if she were a bride.

I saw her soul struck to the ground  because mere space
could not bear it aloft.

I saw how the window at last framed only what was there,
beyond the frame,
that could not fall.

My throat filled swiftly with blood:
you would not have believed how swiftly.

Prayer

LORD JESUS CHRIST
SON of THE LIVING GOD
have mercy on me
a Sinner

🔷 ✝️ 🔷

SALVATION belongeth unto the Lord
and thy blessing is upon thy people

Psalm 3

🔷 ✝️ 🔷

REMEMBER not, Lord, our iniquities, nor the iniquities of our forefathers; neither take thou vengeance of our sins: Spare us, good Lord, spare thy people, whom thou hast redeemed with thy most precious blood, and be not angry with us for ever.

Answer. Spare us, good Lord.

Let us pray.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. Amen.

O Lord, show thy mercy upon us;
And grant us thy salvation.
Turn thy face from our sins;
And blot out all our iniquities.
Send us help from thy holy place;
For thy indignation lieth hard upon us.
O Lord, hear our prayer;
And let the sighing of the prisoners come before thee.

 🔷 ✝️ 🔷

I love Thee, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my stony rock

and my defence:

my Saviour

my God

and my might

 in whom I trust;

my buckler

the horn also

 of my salvation

and my refuge.

Psalm 18

🔷 ✝️ 🔷

Oh Blood and Water which gushed forth
from the Heart of Jesus
as a fountain of Mercy for us
I TRUST IN YOU.

W. S. Merwin: "Travelling Together"

If we are separated, I will

try to wait for you

on your side of things

your side of the wall and the water

and of the light moving at its own speed

even on leaves that we have seen

I will wait on one side

while a side is there

St. Francis of Assisi: "He asked for Charity"

God came to my house and asked for Charity.

And I fell on my knees and

cried, "Beloved,

what may I

give?"

"Just love," He said.

"Just love."

Robert Pinsky

At the summit of Mauna Kea, an array of antennae

Sensitive to the colors of invisible light. Defiling

The sacred mountain, they tilt and sidle to measure

Submillimeter waves from across the universe:

System of cosmic removes and fine extremes

Devoted to track the wavering nature of things.

Your father Adam known also as Makea,

Your mother Lakshmi known also as Eve:

Both of them smaller than the width of a hair,

They ride astride matched tortoises on a road

Nine microns wide, following another Eve

And another Adam all in a skybound procession

Of mothers and fathers, all the Lakshmis and Vishnus

Tendering you their Cain and you their Abel.

The snow Papa and the fire Pele observe tainting

Antennae controlled by a hand in Massachusetts.

Innumerable names and doings, innumerable

Destinies, remotes histories, deities and tongues.

Somewhere among them your ancestor the slave,

Also your ancestors the thief the prince the stranger.

Each particle a thread of crazed pilgrim life

Passing as one tortoise mount pauses to tread

The emanation of a dead star still alive

And afire, back when the astral procession began.

Everybody by descent the outcome of a rape.

Everybody also the outcome of a great love

Ruth, Holofernes, Sappho, Abélard, mostly

Anonymous traveling a filament of light

Across the nothing between the clouds of being

Into the pinhole iris of your mortal eye ---

The heart of each telescope on Mauna Kea,

Is a tube finer than a hair on Vishnu's head.

On each hair of each Vishnu's head, a procession

Of subatomic tortoises crosses the universe.

In the skull of each tortoise in that procession

A faceted jewel attuned to a spectral channel

Where Kronos eats us his children, each contracting

By each one's nature a micron suture of light.

Meister Eckhart: "Always Kissing"

They are always kissing, they can't

control themselves

It is not possible

that any creature can have greater instincts

and perceptions than the

mature human

mind.

God

ripened me.

So I see it is true:

all objects in existence are

wildly in

love.

Teresa de Jesus: "I will just say this"

We

bloomed in Spring.

Our bodies

are the leaves of God.

The apparent seasons of life and death

our eyes can suffer;

but our souls, dear, I will just say this forthright:

they are God

Himself,

we will never perish

unless He

 does.
